Teaching strategies
E5 Instructional Model
At Mandama Primary School in 2012 I implemented a Science Unit on Living and Non Living things to year 5/6 students over a 6-7 week period. This teaching was done in a team of 3 teachers and we used the E5 Instructional Model to guide our planning and teaching.
By using this model we were able to ensure teaching was of high quality and well planned where students had the opportunity to explore different and extended areas of a topic. The E5 model allows students to progress through the unit at a steady rate ensuring multiple different topics are covered where their is room for leniency to carry a lesson over should it be required. This model allowed us to reflect on our teaching throughout the process and also engage in ongoing assessment to help guide future lessons. |
Inquiry Model
During my time at Lara Primary School in 2013, I implemented a 7 week Inquiry unit on Leadership and what leadership means to other people. Information on this unit can be found on my provided Inquiry page.
This unit was formulated using the Inquiry Learning model and allowed students to engage with a variety of resources, develop questions, collaborate and construct new knowledge that is meaningful and authentic. This model allowed students to explore what leadership is, the different types of leadership we see in the world and what it means to different people. I found the process successful in engaging and challenging students, enabling them to take charge of their learning and develop reflection and evaluation skills. The incorporation of technology and ICT was a great way to reengage reluctant and disconnected learners. |
