Teaching Philosophy
The focus of any classroom is ‘to learn’. As a classroom teacher, I hope to provide a safe, stimulating and structured classroom environment that caters for, and enhances, the diverse range of learning needs of students. I acknowledge the fact that all students are individual learners and learn in their own unique ways and therefore require a range of different stimulus.
I strive to provide a balanced program that is inspiring and highlights the academic needs of those in my class. The wellbeing of my students is a priority and the focus in my classroom is creating an encouraging, positive atmosphere allowing children to feel confident in their ability to succeed throughout their continuing school and adulthood endeavours.
Providing students with a classroom in which they want to learn and are inspired by new and innovative things relies heavily on a teachers preparedness and willingness to continually develop their own knowledge and skills. I feel that you should always be on the lookout for new and exciting ideas to bring into the classroom. Planning of activities should incorporate continual variation and utilise different teaching strategies, keeping in mind that children possess different learning styles and will benefit greatly from a variety of teaching methods such as student centred, teacher directed, interactive activities, open-ended tasks, role plays and collaborative grouping.
I recognise that students’ progress at different rates, respond better than some to particular teaching styles and learn in different ways. I would prefer to use positive reinforcement for appropriate behaviour rather than drawing attention to the negative behaviour. I feel by doing this, children will experience praise for their actions, which will ultimately result in an uplift of self-confidence and happiness within themselves, which will reflect eminently within their learning.
The key to enjoyment is satisfaction and success. As a graduate teacher my aim is to inspire children to learn, by encouraging them to be successful. Through this, students will become motivated and self-confident within their own abilities, which will result in happiness and success. As an educator, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth where I hope to encourage children to adopt and foster a lifelong love for learning. All students can and have the ability to learn, and with careful planning and implementation, teachers have the potential to enlighten and inspire every student.

As a graduate teacher, I look forward to not only helping, but making a difference in the lives of my future students. I am passionate about providing students with the best possible opportunities out there and am willing and eager to take the steps to do this. Should I be successful in gaining a graduate position within a school in 2014, I look forward to implementing not only what I know and have learnt, but working with other, more experienced personal to provide my students with a well thought out and planned curriculum, drawing on a number of different students interests and funds of knowledge.
